Fundraising for Nottingham’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

It's good to share

A great cause to support: Our close friends have reacted to the extreme premature birth of their daughter, with the release of a fundraising song for the neonatal unit that cared so well for them

It's good to share

As proud parents of 4 children ourselves, we are always touched by other people’s tales and experiences of birth and bringing up children of their own. Back home in Nottingham (our home city in the UK), some close friends of ours have recently experienced some extreme highs and lows with the severely premature birth of their twins. I personally can’t even begin to imagine all that they’ve been through.

All of their experiences with Nottingham’s excellent (though sadly under-resourced) neonatal intensive care unit, has led them to want to give something back by fundraising some vitally needed funds for the unit. Using his position as headteacher at a local school, Phil Simpson, along with his wife Lucy (who also holds a senior position at the school), have composed and recorded a special song with his school choir. All proceeds from online sales from the song will go towards supporting these special medical professionals, allowing them to continue to provide their miraculous care.

The Plumtree School Junior Choir

In his own words, Phil remarked:

“Plumtree School’s talented Junior Choir has released a song to raise funds for Nottingham’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. As headteacher, I was inspired to write ‘Love Echoes’ with close friend Andrew Shaw, following the premature birth of my daughter, Isla Jean Simpson.

Our lives took a severe twist when Lucy went into extreme premature labour on the 20th June last year. Born at only 23 weeks and 3 days of gestation, Esme Florence was tragically born sleeping, but the incredible staff at the Queens Medical Centre (QMC) hospital in Nottingham, managed to revive her twin, Isla Jean. Isla spent over four months in Nottingham’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the QMC, where she was heroically cared for by the remarkable medical staff.

We have lost count of how many people have been involved in Isla’s care, but every single person is one of life’s true heroes and they all deserve a title of their own. They give hope to the families in their care and we will forever feel blessed. Right now our miracle baby is fifteen months old and continues to defy the odds by overcoming the difficulties presented to her so early in life. We will never be able to repay the people who gave us the hope we hold today, but are attempting to show our appreciation and help raise whatever funds we can to support the unit.

The talented children at our school have demonstrated the supportive and charitable nature of the Plumtree community with their support and beautiful recording of ‘Love Echoes’.”

Phil, Lucy and Isla Simpson

The staff at the Neonatal Unit have provided Phil and Lucy with a list of much needed items and all
funds raised will go towards purchasing these. If you would like to help by contributing to this truly worthy cause, the song can be purchased and downloaded via the following link:

I hope that this is a cause that lots of people can support and really get behind.
